Take a Seat at Graffiti

Bí i do shuí ar son Graffiti

For twenty years, children and young people have been taking their seats at Graffiti in Blackpool. This year, we’re inviting 55 people and organisations to take one too!

2026 marks 20 years since Graffiti Theatre Company made its home in Blackpool.

Thousands of children and young people, artists, families and community members have come through our doors to watch, make, write, perform, and play. Graffiti is a creative home where children and young people can imagine, create, and belong.

To mark our anniversary, we’re inviting just 55 people and businesses to Take a Seat at Graffiti with a donation of €250.

You will help us make sure that children and young people can continue to take their seats at Graffiti too.

I felt good. I felt happy. And like I was shining on the inside.

Participant, age 11

Activate members hold chairs aloft and circle the orange backdrop. One member sits facing backwards on a central chair with a large faux fur coat and alien googly eyes. Someone else is lifting even more chairs at the side. What a strange ritual.

My confidence skyrocketed and my writing came on leaps and bounds… I was finally able to say, ‘I am a writer.’

How “Take a Seat” works

When you Take a Seat, we’ll add a name that matters to you to one of our chairs, for a year.

Our chairs don’t stay put. They move around our building because creativity does too!

The chairs welcome audiences into our FitzGibbon Theatre. They’re pulled into circles for youth theatre workshops, tucked around tables for Write Club, and used by artists as they rehearse and make new, exciting and ambitious work for young audiences.

When you donate to Take a Seat, we’ll send you a photograph of your dedicated chair out and about in use at Graffiti and occasional updates so you can see more of the work your donation is helping to make possible.

Take a seat at Graffiti and help children and young people to find a place here too.

What will your support make possible?

A donation of €250 doesn’t pay for one particular workshop, performance or place at youth theatre. It helps us make all of those things more accessible.

There are real costs to making great creative experiences happen; paying artists, creating productions, running our building, providing the materials and resources that make the work possible.

We deliberately don’t pass the full cost of that work on to children and families. As a charity, we keep participation fees as low as we can, offer scholarships where cost would otherwise be a barrier, provide many workshops and programmes completely free of charge, and keep tickets accessible for children, families and schools.

Your donation helps us continue to absorb those costs, so that a family’s ability to pay doesn’t determine whether a child gets to take part.

The cost of taking part shouldn’t be the thing that keeps a child out. Access to creativity is a right, not a privilege.

Graffiti is a special place and it has had a profound impact on my son. You have made a safe, creative, inclusive and joyous sanctuary for so many young people. Thank you for inspiring and nurturing my boys.
