Graffiti is looking to recruit a maternity cover for our Creative Learning and Activate Youth Theatre Programme Director.

As Graffiti approaches its 40th anniversary, we are looking for a dynamic, talented and highly motivated individual to deputise and lead the Creative Learning Programme over the course of the current director’s maternity leave.

The role comprises two main areas: Creative Learning and Activate Youth Theatre.

Creative Learning

Graffiti’s Creative Learning programme comprises a range of high quality workshop offerings to schools and other settings. These range from drama skills to workshops helping children prepare for the move to Secondary school, to performance based subject specific pieces such as Rowan and the Seasons. 

Overall responsibilities
  • To manage and deliver the operational development of the Creative Learning Programme as set out by the existing Director
  • Work with our Bookings Officer and Marketing & Development Officer to promote Creative Learning workshops to our schools network and secure bookings
  • Manage our current team of freelance facilitators to book and deliver our range of workshops during term time in schools and with other opportunities in other settings outside of the school term
  • Creating schools resources for the Creative Learning programme – eg resource packs for schools, supporting materials for workshops etc
  • Continue to nurture relationships with our schools network
  • To work with a wide age range of participants in formal and informal settings
  • To work with the Bookings Offer and General Manager to support timely invoicing and payments for workshops
  • Facilitation of schools workshops within programme
  • Assist in the preparation of funding applications that support Creative Learning’s programme
  • Liaison and updates to original post holder as part of their maternity leave Keep in Touch days, as needed

Activate Youth Theatre

Graffiti’s Activate Youth Theatre programme comprises five groups ranging from 8 to 18 years of age with almost 100 members. They meet weekly for facilitated drama workshops here at Graffiti, facilitated by Graffiti’s Activate Director and a dedicated team of drama facilitators.

  • Maintain delivery of our Activate Youth Theatre programme including:
  • Drama facilitation of Activate weekly Seniors group
  • Planning and facilitation of workshops, where required
  • Management of facilitation team
  • Regular liaison with parents and guardians of members
  • Support the existing artistic programme aims and objectives set out for the coming year by the existing Director
  • Management of enquiries relating to membership, as well as our waiting list
  • Management of budgets relating to end of year sharings of work for family and friends
  • To lead and manage the Youth Theatre Council
  • Management of funding applications as required
  • Liaison and updates to original post holder as part of their maternity leave Keep in Touch days, as needed

And more generally within the core Graffiti team;

  • To administrate projects to the highest possible standards including record keeping and communication. 
  • To assist with work experience and placement programmes.
  • To contribute to new fundraising initiatives and new income stream opportunities. 
  • To contribute to the evaluation of projects for funders. 
  • To support external communications with the provision of content/updates for our Marketing and Development Officer with adequate media clearances in place from participants
  • To ensure that all sessions are carried out in a safe environment in compliance with the Theatre’s Health and Safety and Child Safeguarding policies. 
  • To attend regular weekly staff meetings and keep the core team updated on activities.
  • To attend training courses and development opportunities as required.
  • To work within, promote and comply with current legislation and Graffiti Theatre’s policies and practices, including on Equality, Inclusion, Child Safeguarding and Health & Safety both in the delivery of services and the treatment of others. 
  • The above duties may involve having access to information of a confidential nature that may be covered by the General Data Protection Regulation. Confidentiality must be maintained at all times. 
  • Occasional travel outside Cork as required. 
  • The above accountabilities are not exhaustive and may vary without changing the character of the job or level of responsibility.

Person specification: Essential 

  • At least three years’ experience of creating, planning, developing and delivering theatre projects for young people in a youth theatre or community setting
  • Drama facilitation experience
  • Experience of delivering workshops in schools/colleges. 
  • Skills in time management and a positive attitude in the face of multiple demands.
  • An understanding of contemporary theatre and drama practice
  • The ability to work with initiative, flair and creativity. 
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills. 
  • The flexibility to deal with participants with a wide range of needs and backgrounds. 
  • The ability to liaise with external organisations and relevant groups.
  • Administrative skills, including basic computing and database skills, report writing, and other requirements of project planning and deliver
  • Excellent team worker, supporting the work of colleagues as well as inviting support and input in return. 
  • Knowledge of safeguarding issues, particularly in relation to vulnerable young people. 
  • Experience with Grant writing for funding applications 

Desirable 

  • Experience of working in a producing theatre
  • Full clean driving license. 
  • Experience of working with young people and adults with learning disabilities.
  • Working knowledge of the educational system.

Terms

Duration: Specified purpose contract – Duration of maternity leave

Hours: Full time (with some evening work, with time off in lieu in working week)

Location: Graffiti, Blackpool, Cork 

Reports to: Artistic Director & CEO

Salary: €40,044 per annum
